You’ve likely heard it before: Belize is a nation known for having one foot in the Caribbean and the other in Central America. Traverse the country’s length, and you’ll find yourself met by a tapestry of cultures, histories, and languages ranging from Afro-Caribbean to Indigenous Maya and much more in between. Alongside them are a variety of settings and landscapes, including sandy coastlines, coral-fringed islands, and undulating green mountains.
That diversity is what makes Belize such a uniquely rewarding destination. This stands especially true in the summer, when the country comes alive with all the action and authenticity that perfect summer vacations are made of.
Culture and Cuisine on the Coast

On Belize’s Caribbean shoreline, summer equates to food, music, and an unmistakable air of celebration. The annual Belize Songwriter Festival kicks things off on May 22nd, with a promise of soothing country melodies on a picturesque backdrop at The Lodge at Jaguar Reef. Meanwhile, over at Blue Reef Beach Resort, summer relaxation means enjoying an amalgam of barefoot vibes, cold drinks, and captivating storytelling through music at one of our newly launched Bamboo Sessions.
For the epicureans, The Belize Collection food truck is the answer to everyone’s foodie dreams. Keep an eye out for the truck at some of the country’s most beloved summer gatherings, like the National Agriculture and Trade Show (late April through May 3rd), and the Hopkins Mango Fest on June 13th and 14th.
Then in July, usher in the lobster season the right way: with beachside feasts, live entertainment, and samplings of the country’s prized crustacean that range from smoky grilled tails to tangy lobster tacos. Whether in Placencia at Umaya or Blue Reef, or in Hopkins at The Lodge at Jaguar Reef, attending Belize’s lobster fest is a summer must.
From the Stables to the Riverbanks

In the rainforest, choose between doing it all or doing nothing at all. At The Rainforest Lodge at Sleeping Giant, guided adventures lead to hidden waterfalls and jungle paths. The lodge’s annual Horse Camp allows equestrians of all ages to ride along forest trails that weave through picturesque settings all while connecting with fellow nature and animal lovers.
Not far away, The Banks offers plenty of laidback and lowkey ways to experience the rhythm of the rainforest. Sit riverside at Humo Restaurant and Bar while enjoying a cocktail or a mocktail and live music, courtesy of our regular performers.
Dance along to the vibrant beats of DJ Rebel or gently sway to soothing jazz melodies by dynamic duo Ari and Anton during a Riverside Rhythms session.
